El mapa no es la red.

Every operations centre runs on a map: a topology diagram, a wall of green tiles, a dashboard that says everything is fine. The map is useful. It is also not the network. A map is drawn from one place, usually the core, usually your own equipment. It shows you the health of your monitoring. It does not show you what someone at the far edge actually experiences, which is the only thing that matters. The tiles can be green while a branch three countries away cannot load a payment screen. The gap is not carelessness. It is geometry. Measure from a single vantage point and you cannot separate a real service problem from a problem with the vantage point itself. The map tells you the map is fine. Closing the gap means measuring from where the work happens, from more than one independent place, and treating that as the truth when it disagrees with the dashboard. It means being willing to believe the branch manager over the wall of green. The map is a model of the network. Decisions made from the model, not the territory, are how outages stay invisible until a person tells you about one.
